The power of stories to harness diversity

10 June 2014

We are delighted to be speaking at ‘Harnessing the Power of Diversity’ conference, hosted by Alderman Fiona Woolf CBE, The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of London. Here is a short insight into the content of our workshop.

Everyone has a story to tell, and today more than every there is an opportunity to tell and share your story. Stories can be very powerful. They are a great way to bring colleagues together, encourage collaboration, generate ideas and grow understanding. If you want to harness the power of diversity in your business, start with a story.

The best stories are memorable. Research tells us stories can be 22 times more memorable than facts and stats alone.

The best stories have impact. When you combine an idea with an emotion, that can be very powerful and very persuasive.

The best stories are personal. They make us think about ourselves and others.

The best stories give organisations, teams and individuals a voice. A chance to:

Communicate your Vision
Create a culture of Openness
Generate and share Ideas
Give people the chance to Connect
Grow awareness and Educate

So how do you start to bring storytelling into your business?

Start by creating your story
The ‘why’ of what you do and how everyone can play their part.

Invite everyone to connect and contribute
Creating and sharing stories can really bring people together.

Encourage your team to tell theirs
Whether it’s a client success, a personal thank you or simply an idea.

Share successes and failures
Tell the story of what you are achieving; people will listen.

Stories can really harness the diversity of skills, experiences and ideas in your organisation. If you ever want inspiration or simply someone to help kickstart the storytelling, email Henry@106comms.com
