Value to society

15 July 2019

There’s no doubt that it is more important than ever to show your value to society.  This can be looked at as a combination of your services (i.e. what value do these actually bring to society?), your direct operations (and how they impact on jobs, communities, environment and so on), and your supply chain (and again how this impacts on the environment, jobs, prosperity etc).

If your employees know they are doing good work and having a positive impact on their community, they are more likely to feel fulfilled and give you their best.

Here’s how we helped SGS show their value to society, through creating a story and campaign that goes way beyond the traditional CSR story, and is driving brand, reputation and employee engagement.

SGS is a global testing and verification business, headquartered in Geneva, with more than 90,000 people around the world.  They wanted to show their value to society to customers, critical to building their reputation; and they wanted to get their people engaged too, to make them feel proud about their work.

We created an external and internal campaign, designed to prove the Value to Society through facts, case studies and people stories.

The Value to Society story – shared across social media and in client communications.  This was a video that set out the story, the way value to society is measured and some great stories to support it.  Watch the video here:  https://www.sgs.com/en/sustainability-report/figures-and-blocks/what-is-value-to-society/our-value-to-society

To help customers and colleagues to understand more about the many different facets of SGS’s value to society, we created a webGL tool to share case studies – in 3 different 3D environments, city, industrial and countryside.

Employee storytelling is another great way to improve understanding of the value to society.  We built a Value to Society Wall to encourage colleagues to share their stories with colleagues around the world.  This is a site, built in Sharepoint, where you can filter the stories by location or business unit.

Here’s the full case study, including a glimpse of the Value to Society Wall – https://vimeo.com/346806517
